Case Study: Alan Jacobson

As the publishing industry changed around him, bestselling thriller writer Alan Jacobson and his agent sensed it was time to respond to it. Alan’s reputation as a mainstream thriller writer was growing with each volume in his highly regarded Karen Vail series. The fourth book in the series, Inmate 1577, would be ready for release in the summer 2011 and a decision about the publisher needed to be made. At the same time, Alan wanted to re-launch digital ebook versions of first two novels, The Hunted and False Accusations.

  • In digital, where the possibilities—and shelf space—are limitless. That’s why my agent and I chose Premier Digital Publishing to be our beacon in this murky wild west of eBook publishing.
Alan Jacobson, National Bestselling Author of Inmate 1577 — "Most authors are now aware that sweeping change is reshaping the publishing landscape. EBooks have established a firm footing, garnered millions of readers, and have officially been accepted as mainstream—“the norm” as the Authors Guild has termed it. Growth is explosive, while bound book sales are declining, bookstores are closing, and finding space on booksellers’ shelves to sell our novels is more difficult than ever.

But not in digital, where the possibilities—and shelf space—are limitless. And that’s why my agent and I chose Premier Digital Publishing to be our beacon in this murky wild west of eBook publishing. The principals behind PDP are not publishing industry executives—their pedigree is in digital content delivery. That’s vital because selling a novel these days is more digital content delivery than traditional publishing. The product hasn’t changed—but the method by which authors get those books into readers’ hands has.

During my first conference call with PDP, I knew three minutes into the conversation that I was dealing with entrepreneurs who “get” marketing and promotion in the digital age. But the advantage of using PDP wasn’t merely that they know the business; I’ve found them to be scrupulous people who tell you what they’re going to do—and then—actually—do it. It’s been a refreshing, and rewarding, experience. My stress levels have plummeted, freeing my mind to do what it does best: create….write intriguing thrillers that readers can’t wait to devour. I highly recommend PDP—and have—to any of my colleagues, without hesitation."

  • I don't know the details of preparing and posting a manuscript for electronic publication, or of negotiating for cover art, or of promotion, or of collecting payments. PDP does it all for me, and gives me thorough statements. That makes it easy.
